Melanie Ernaga, Teacher

Howwwwdy! My name is Melanie (Brines) Ernaga. I was born here in Susanville, went to Shaffer School through 8th grade and graduated from Lassen High School in 1973. I moved to Arkansas and got my teaching credential from John Brown University, taught there 5 years, and then met the love-of-my-life, Dave Ernaga, on a visit back to Susanville. We got married in 1984, and I moved back to this area, got a teaching position at my alma mater, Shaffer School, and taught there until 2014.

Dave and I live in Litchfield on our "funny farm" with two horses, fifteen chickens, two cats, and several other critters that roam around at various times. I enjoy "horsing around" or doing anything outside, cooking, sewing, reading, and I just delight in being with family and friends and watching animals when I can.

I have worked in several areas, and Mt. Lassen Charter School (MLCS) is a great place to teach. Activities address students' interests such as art, music, robotics, technology, and other pursuits. Work meets individual needs in one-on-one or small group settings. The administration is very supportive, and the staff are fun and easy to work with. MLCS is an extraordinary organization.
